Title: Tuition Fee Issue
Description: Is 4000 php considerable?

Is it considerable that the first year students paid +/- 4000 pesos for tuition fee for the first term of this school year? why or why not?

The KG - July 15, 2005 07:16 PM (GMT)
4000 php on the first term? How about the 2nd and Third?

If its the same for all three terms, considering that TUP-Visayas has been partly privatized. 4000 is already a good bargain for the quality education being received by the students.

Back in our days, we only paid 545 php, and if you were an SK officer, you'de only be paying 30 php...

The differencce is really big but theres nothin we can do because the government made cuts to its funds for the school, and in order for the school to survive, an increase in tuition fee is a must...or should II say a temporary solution...

Good thing though that the school is opening up businesses, like a water refilling station(thats what i heard)

I've one suggestion. Why not open up an internet cafe, which will not only serve the students but also the people outside the school. That way the generated income could help lower the 4000 php per term of tuition, maybe this one is already being planned, (i dont know)

shrug

Honestly, it is way too expensive considering the tuition I paid 2 years ago. 4k is way too much for our brethren's in Negros.

I could still remember students complaining about the 7 pesos insurance fee every start of the term.

Doing the math, 4000/18(units) = 222 plus pesos per unit. Still way way cheaper than private schools. That is even less than one half La Salle charges.

As we all know, we are not the only State University, there are ALOT. The budget is already short for those allocated to the elementary and public schools, how much more for those state colleges?

Remember, our trainor's are not hired to offer charity, they are equally paid per their experience and expertise. The school could be losing a great part of the allocation. Inorder to continue its operation in providing the best education at the most affordable value, I'd say, TUPV still offers the BEST EDUCATION that our tuition is capable of paying for!

We are all scholars when we enrolled, subsidized, that's why the selection process was very rigid. Even competition started at the very early stage of application for the university.

I for one lined up on a Sunday, 1AM, of March 1998 to take the exams. The test was given at 8am. How's that? Again, best of the best were selected to realize who's -worthy- to be SUBSIDIZED by the government.

Sadly, some of us don't even realize the dirt cheap tuition we're paying is just the crumbs of the whole pie the government is shouldering just to send us to a REp*taBLE University.

"PA SMOKE-SMOKE LANG ANG IBAN, PA INOM-INOM, PA BILLIARDS-BILLIARDS, GAMING-GAMING MAN ANG IBAN, LIGOY-LIGOY PAH, TIKAL-TIKAL PA NGA DAW SI SIN-O."

I myself is guilty of atleast one among those mentioned, but have we realized that if the money we've spent on those vices were donated to the school, you think we could get atleast one more SCHOLAR? Someone who could be WORTH subsidizing? Someone who could TOP the Board Exams? Somebody who could at least prove "ROHM" that we don't need to steal exam papers to PASS?

Since the tuition fee has increased, I guess, your allowance would be sized down as well. So, minimal allowance, minimal expenses, the least -- NO VICES --. So everybody can study, get good grades, make our mama's proud, and value the education each one of us is granted!

normal lang na ang reactions coz kadako gd man sang difference compared sa tuition before.. pero things change.. kaso on the negative side, nagmahal eh... pero kabalo naman ta sang gakalatabu... ga cost cutting ang government tungod sang utang ta... wala na ta sang mahimo.. but to deal with it.. mag reklamo ta ga wosten lang gd ang situation.. the best way is to think for a solution.. personal cost cutting man eh... it goes down sa isa ka wish ko sa aton nga pungsod: "TANI ANG MAREALIZE SANG MGA PINOY NGA TANAN INDI DAPAT ISALIG SA GOBYERNO"..

salamat...

screeeccchhh!!!. blaggg.. ka boooommmm!!!! :0wn3d

kanami gid pamatian sg imo commento poksie... wla bias nga commento!!!

yet there are certain issues about transparency... that is beneficial if kept from students. i say, INTEGRITY nalang! there are cost accounts that are easy to comprehend and there are those that doesn't mean anything to us but is vital to the operations of the school.

we would always agree with the budget allocation once we know where its going is beneficial for us... but if the a portion of the tuition indicates miscellaneous fees, dala na ina kuryente, tubig, ang maintenance sg bangko kag mga classrooms naton, janitor, papel during exams... take that away and imagine how ur college life would be!!!

even in UP cebu, budget constraints even haunt the smallest department.

you can ask our senior-senior alumnae's, paper and pens were free... subong indi na! kay wla na budget!!!

let's face it, Philippines is buried deep with its debts. where does Pinas draft their budget? correct me if i'm wrong, but, utang na gihapon! and majority is allocated sa sweldo sg mga empleyado sa gobyerno! tanawa nalang ang sweldo nila compared sa mga ara sa private institutions?

if we really want to know how and where the money is used, we must first understand how a FIRM operates, how it efficiently allocates its resources to keep the institution standing on its feet... while giving us the best possible education they can provide!!!

let's not bind ourselves with a selfish thought na basta gobyerno corrupt, it is just like any other firms striving to survive.

ang pigado magkaayuhan kung magatinguha!

tinguha = pangutang bayran lang sunod, study mayo para qualify DOST or acquire any scholarship, ngita medios para makakwarta bakal libro kag pang project, tanom/tanok kamote para may pangrecess, ukay-ukay shirt para medyo presentable man sa clase, wla lang anay cellphone ah, ... damo pa!!!

sky is the limit for the word tinguha!!!

the government is not here to feed, shelter, and educate the poor(nga wla gatinguha), it is to run the economy for the greater benefit of everybody!!!

and the poor nga wla gatinguha is not EVERYBODY!

peace Out!

Well said RoadKill...

I can relate with your experience...:(

I do not know why those extremist people(BAYAN muna, Gabriela, SANLAKAS etc etc) always complain about the system...they always blame the system...the government? Didn't they know they also are one and part of the system? Why just can't they understand? Most of the people who are into this org are knowledgable people, but i cannot dig the reason why they have to make the matters worst for our government. Kag they always use the term "poor", eventhough in reality they are not that poor. Pakitang tao lng sila.

'Stead of go protestin' in the streets, why just they go on with their lives? Work peacefully and with pride. If they see faults/wrongdoings with the system, just report to the (right) authority. I believe they know what is right & wrong. It is just a matter of common sense, discipline and responsibility.

One thing I observe in Pinas is lawlessness. People tend not to follow the laws. Tapos dasig pa sa ila mag reklamo. Pro kun maka gwa na sila bla sa Pinas kag maka abroad, they diligently follow the laws of other country... Weird no? I do not generalise all pinoys ha...? just my 2 cents of opinion.

"Tinguha" , i like your word Roadkill. Thank you for sharing the word.

You know I fancy a Japanese complicated word "gambaru", "gambarimasu" or "gambatte". I asked Japanese people i know about this word (they are the same ) but they have difficulties in explaining the meaning to me. I think the simple equivalent to this word in English is just try your best in whatever you do.

Now back to the topic, 4K pesoses in kinda expensive nowadays. But it is reasonable enough, as there is problem on lack of gov't fundings.

bow! B)
